KING OF FRUITS - DURIAN OATMEAL RECIPE (GLUTEN FREE, VEGAN, NATURALLY SWEETENED)
Our love for durians has now evolved to our breakfast staple here, especially when the durian season is here in June.
Similar texture to butter/avocados, we are obsessed with durians and make the perfect butter substitute to your toast and pancakes, but with added fibre and healthy monounsaturated fats which are beneficial for heart health!
At The Clean Addicts, we want to make your breakfasts exciting, and nothing is better than jumping out of bed and having the King of Fruits for breakfast!
We tweaked it here with the addition of matcha powder that pairs really well with the bittersweet profile of durians – try it to believe it.
This oatmeal is:
Creamy
Slightly sweet
Satiating
HIGHLY customisable to your own liking!
KING OF FRUITS OATMEAL (GLUTEN FREE, VEGAN, REFINED SUGAR FREE, NATURALLY SWEETENED)
1-2 servings
60g Organic Rolled Oats/Oat Flakes
160g Water
50-60g Fresh durian pulp (or to taste)
Pinch of turmeric (for colour)
1 tsp Matcha Powder (optional)
Additional topping ideas: Berries, Yogurt, Oranges
Instructions
1. On the stovetop, combine oats with water and heat up till it becomes creamy, and add more water to avoid it from becoming too thick.
2. Once the oatmeal is slightly cooled, add the durian and a pinch of turmeric.
Matcha Variation: Top it with matcha powder or stir it in.
Chef Andrea's Best Tips
- While certain varieties of durians are higher in sugar and fat content, as long as you keep to your portion sizes of ~2 medium seeds a day. All things in moderation!
- For Matcha variation: Adding matcha powder when the oatmeal is cooled down helps to avoid the precious antioxidants from being destroyed.
